Ma Yanlong lives in Miaomiaohu village on the edge of the Mu Us Desert, which is unable to sustain plants that would allow locals to make a living. The local government then guided the villagers in fighting desertification and enhancing the soil, transforming the vast desert into a series of green oases and fertile farmland.
The villagers can now grow specialty fruits and vegetables there, such as desert tomatoes and sandy-land yams, affording them a higher quality of life.
