Ma Honghai, deputy to the National People's Congress, who is from Ningxia Hui autonomous region, suggested that by seizing on the opportunity of the Xixia Imperial Tombs in Ningxia inscribed on the World Heritage List in 2025, the regional will increase its support for the protection and utilization of the tombs, and support the cultural landmark’s efforts to be registered as a 5A level scenic spot.
He suggested that more special funds for the scenic spot's follow-up protection should be put in place by national departments to improve security and fire protection, as well as environmental improvement and overall research and interpretation, among other areas.
Ma also recommended that Ningxia should promote the revitalization and utilization of its core cultural heritage sites such as the Xixia Imperial Tombs and the Shuidonggou archaeological site. Immersive experience projects should be developed using VR, AR, and other technologies, showing the diversity and unity of Chinese civilization, he said.
