At the second session of the 14th National People's Congress (NPC) in Beijing, NPC deputy Yang Qinglong proposed to reduce road tolls for transporting animal feed.

In recent years, Ningxia Hui autonomous region has supported and cultivated beef cattle as one of the six specialty agricultural industries. It has designated Guyuan city as the core area for the development of the beef cattle industry.

However, with the continuous expansion of the breeding scale and the predominant practice of barn feeding throughout the year, the problem of shortage in the supply and demand of animal feed has become an issue.

According to the calculations of the national forage industry system, Western China (including 12 provinces and regions such as Inner Mongolia, Ningxia, Sichuan, and Guangxi) has a total demand for forage of about 220 million tons, accounting for 56.4% of the total national demand, with a forage gap of approximately 30 million tons.

Under this circumstance, transporting surplus forage from the east to the west is an important measure to address regional forage shortages.

Yang suggested waiving tolls for large trucks transporting forage over roads and bridges, reducing the cost of feeding herbivorous livestock, and promoting sustained income growth for farmers.
