At the ongoing second session of the 14th National People's Congress (NPC) in Beijing, NPC deputy Wang Xuejun made proposals regarding supporting the stable and healthy development of the dairy industry in Ningxia Hui autonomous region.
The dairy industry is an indispensable industry for building a Healthy China. As one of the "six specialty agricultural industries" in Ningxia, the dairy industry had a comprehensive output value of nearly 100 billion yuan ($13.89 billion) in 2023, making it a pillar industry in the region.
However, due to factors such as price fluctuations in the international and domestic markets, the dairy industry market has been in a prolonged slump since November 2022.
In response, Wang suggested to provide milk powder subsidies to dairy processing companies at a rate of 4,000 yuan per ton to encourage them to maximize their procurement of fresh milk. At the same time, a national reserve system for bulk milk powder should be established to assist companies in reducing their stock for future operations.
In addition, Wang also suggested promoting the forage subsidy policy and establishing "green transportation channels" to coordinate the resolution of insufficient forage in dairy farming areas and the low utilization of crop straw in grain planting areas, thereby assisting the sustainable and healthy development of the dairy industry.
