At the second session of the 14th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), CPPCC member Shen Aihong submitted a proposal "to support the sand control project at the meandering bends of Yellow River in Ningxia."

Ningxia is surrounded by deserts on three sides, making it one of the most ecologically fragile and water-scarce regions in China, also being among the most severely affected by wind, sand and soil erosion among all provinces and regions in the country.

Ningxia is the only province entirely within the Yellow River Basin and faces a severe situation in combating desertification and controlling sand and comprehensive desertification.

Shen suggested to increasing the policy and financial assistance to Ningxia in the comprehensive desertification control of the Yellow River bends.

Efforts need to be made to support Zhongwei city in curbing the encroachment of the Tengger Desert and Maowusu Desert, launching a series of integrated protection and restoration projects for forests, grasslands, and wetlands, as well as increasing funding for desert governance.
