"Technologies innovation must be based on demand," said Ma Yushan, representative at the 20th CPC National Congress. Ma is an academician from the Chinese Academy of Engineering, the secretary of the CPC branch committee of Wuzhong Instrument Co., Ltd. and chairman of Wuzhong Instrument. He has devoted himself to the research of control valves for over 30 years.

In 2004, due to blind investment and other reasons, WuZhong Instrument faced difficulties in operation and could not even pay the staff's salaries. Nearly 200 technicians chose to leave. At that time, Ma was already a famous expert in the field of control valves, and many enterprises in Shenzhen, Guangdong, Jiangsu and other places gave him offers. However, Ma chose to stay with the company. He believed that he was responsible for finding a solution to the enterprise's financial woes. He continued to lead the remaining 10 technicians to carry out technological innovations. In 2010, the China Automation Group acquired Wuzhong Instrument, which ushered in new development opportunities.

In recent years, under the leadership of Ma Yushan, WuZhong Instrument has developed more than 60 new control valve products, 24 of which have been rated as national key new products. It has won 23 national and provincial science and technology awards and more than 400 invention and utility model patents. Besides, the company has played an important role in west-east gas transmission and other major equipment manufacturing projects.
Technological innovation cannot be separated from talents, and talents are the scarcest resource in northwest China. Along the way, Ma has adhered to the development principle of talent team to lead the enterprise's development.
"I feel honored to be selected as the representative at the 20th National Congress," said Ma. "How to introduce and cultivate talents to support innovation in the western region, and how to drive industrial development through innovation are the difficulties for us. In the field of control valves, I will continue to work hard to promote the "Made in China" brand.
