Nineteen years ago, after being laid off, Zhao Naixiang devoted herself to community work. She began to deal with trivial but important matters in the community. Over these years, Zhao, secretary of the CPC Changcheng Garden community committee in Jinfeng district, Yinchuan, Ningxia, and director of the community, has grown from a laid-off worker to a representative at the 20th CPC National Congress.

"When I started my work in the community, the roads were potholed, the houses were dilapidated, and there were no street lamps. Many people relied on coal stoves for cooking and heating. Nowadays, communities are surrounded by green trees, fitness, leisure, entertainment and other facilities have been established, including smart express cabinets, face recognition access, and free WIFI. I have witnessed a life I could not have imagined in the past." said Zhao.
Since the outbreak of the pandemic at the beginning of spring, 2020, Zhao has led the local team to complete the prevention and control work of COVID-19, which has ensured the safety of residents.
She has led the team to visit and investigate more than 7,600 households. Moreover, she promoted the "home card", a form of identification printed with an individual's name, building number, and contact number, to effectively avoid repeated work of security guards and shorten the time of entrance and exit inspection. Responding to the call of the Ningxia Women's Federation, she encouraged female volunteers to actively participate into pandemic prevention work.
Under Zhao's leadership, the community has continuously promoted the construction of supporting facilities, and people's sense of happiness has been constantly improved.
